It has been revealed that the race to select a new Alaafin of Oyo is getting tougher by the day.
This is as 20 princes from the Owoade ruling family, has signified interest to succeed Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.
The Owoade ruling family according to the succession law and Prince Adediwura Owoade, the Mogaji of the family, is one of the two ruling families under the Agunloye Ruling House.
Owoade while speaking with journalists, disclosed that a register had been opened to gather the names of all interested family members to write their names and credentials.
The Mogaji also revealed that a serving Vice Chancellor would be invited to screen the names with the aimmof presenting the best candidate to the kingmakers, Oyo Mesi.
“The family had been cheated for so long, but was now ready to ensure that one of its princes ascends the throne.
“All of them are my children. Everybody who is contesting from Owoade family is my son.
“We are one family. We met it like that and we want it to remain like that.
“I want to stress this, that whoever is picked from Owoade family will work for the development of the town and we are ready to settle any rift with anybody in Oyo.
“We are for peace and whatever may be the cause of such fight, we are ready to settle it.
“We want unity in Oyo, we want Oyo to be one in order to enhance development and security”, he added.
The Alaafin’s stool became vacant as a result of the demise of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.
