PDP Kano Lawmaker Defects To APC

Kano lawmaker representing Kano Municipal Council in the state’s House of Assembly, Salisu Ahmad-Gwangwazo, has on Friday, defected from the PDP to the APC.

The lawmaker announced his decision in a letter sent to Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari in Kano.

The Speaker’s spokesman, Uba Abdullahi, said in a statement that Ahmad-Gwangwazo cited fractionalization in the leadership of the PDP at the state and national levels as the reason for his defection.

He stated that in the lawmaker’s letter to the speaker entitled, “Notification of my defection from PDP to APC’’, he submitted that the fractionalization had made it impracticable for party activities to flourish.

Abdullahi added that Chidari congratulated Ahmad-Gwangwazo for joining the APC and assured him that the party would carry him and his supporters along in all matters.

The speaker further assured that the party runs an all-inclusive system, adding that all party members had stakes in the development of the state.

Abdullahi also quoted the speaker as saying that there were indications that the ruling APC would retain power in the state at the 2023 general elections.

Following Ahmad-Gwangwazo’s defection, the House now has 20 APC lawmakers and 11 for the PDP.
