Security operatives on Thursday blocked the entrance of the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State.
The sectariate which is located at Finbars Road Umuahia was sealed by stern-looking police officers who prevented staff and visitors from accessing the premises.
One of the operatives who was asked the reason behind their action replied, “It’s an order from above.”
The state’s Publicity Secretary of the party, Fabian Nwankwo, when contacted said there was no cause for alarm.
According to Nwankwo, the party is observing a day of rest as party official and workers were asked to stay at home and rest due to accumulates stress of the past weeks of activities.
He added that activities will fully resume at the secretariat the following day.
There have been calls since Tuesday for the resignation of the party chairman in the state, Dr. Asiforo Okere, due to the disagreements among party members over the three-man delegates congress.
The Okere-led State leadership of the party was accused of compromise and plots to manipulate the process in favour of a certain anointed governorship aspirant.
